AI4C summer workshop

There was a great turnout for the latest workshop, and several new charities were welcomed to the AI4C community including Solving Kids Cancer, Maternity Action, Crohn’s and Colitis UK, Dementia UK, Action for Children, Breast Cancer Now, Cystic Fibrosis Trust, WeSee Education and the National Churches Trust.

Richard Davis, the former Chief Data Officer at OFCOM, gave his take on the data challenges and opportunities from AI, with one major opportunity being Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), a technique for enhancing the accuracy and reliability of generative AI models with facts fetched from external sources. Data scientist Elle Neal explained the options charities had when using Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI-driven chatbots, then gave a live demonstration of how RAG LLMs could provide an affordable and viable option.

Charity members engaged in AI projects also updated the group on where they were at and the current challenges they were facing.

The next workshop is due to take place on September 11.
